The superstar centre assisted on the Golden Knights’ first goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, giving him a franchise-record 79 points on the season.
Eichel surpassed teammate William Karlsson, who had 78 points in the team’s inaugural season in 2017-18. Jonathan Marchessault, who had 75 points in the club’s first season, is the only other player in the Golden Knights’ eight-year history to surpass 70 points.
The assist was Eichel’s 59th of the season, extending his franchise record in that category. David Perron had the previous record with 50 points in 2017-18.
Eichel’s previous career-high for points was 82, set in 2018-19 while a member of the Buffalo Sabres. Including the remainder of the Blue Jackets game, he has 18 contests remaining to try to become the first Golden Knights player to surpass 100 points.
