Art of Anime Auction Celebrates 40 Years of Studio Ghibli This Weekend

If you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli who has always wanted to own a piece of its 40 year history, you’ll soon have plenty of opportunities. Heritage Auctions is getting ready to launch its first Signature Animation Auction for 2025, with The Art of Anime Volume VI set to celebrate four decades of Ghibli with production cels and more from March 22-24.
Over the course of the event, which runs from this Saturday through Monday, over 1,200 lots will be up for auction. In addition to production cels, the lots include production backgrounds from the likes of My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky and Grave of the Fireflies.

On top of the 40th anniversary Ghibli celebration, a bunch of other anime favs will be available for those looking to bid, including classics from Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokémon and an expanded manga section. There are even anime-adjacent items, like production materials from Liquid Television classic Aeon Flux.
