Flames’ Connor Zary suspended two games for elbowing

The incident occurred in the first period after Pettersson threw a big open-ice hit on the Flames’ Nazem Kadri. In response, Zary knocked Pettersson down with a high hit and then pinned him to the ice.

Zary was given a two-minute interference penalty on the play. Pettersson missed six minutes of game time and returned for one more full shift before the end of the first period.

Pettersson was then ruled out for the rest of the game and head coach Rick Tocchet had no update on his injury after the game.

This is the first suspension of Zary’s career.
