George Garton: All-rounder extends Warwickshire contract

Warwickshire all-rounder George Garton has signed a contract extension, tying him to the club until the end of the 2026 season.

Garton joined the Bears from Sussex ahead of last season but only appeared in T20 Blast cricket, taking 13 wickets and scoring 105 runs.

The 27-year-old played for Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash competition over the winter, helping them reach the final.

“On the pitch I don’t think I was quite at my best (last season). I didn’t showcase exactly what I know I can do, there’s certainly more to come,” the left-arm paceman told the Warwickshire website, external.

“We should be pushing for titles. Our Blast team is strong and we should be there or thereabouts come September. We feel we have the squad to go the full distance.”

Garton has 173 wickets in all formats of the game, but has not played first-class cricket since early in the 2023 season.

“He’s an exciting player; Bears fans saw that last summer. He can swing the ball at pace, clear the ropes with the bat and is among the finest fielders in the country,” said first-team coach Ian Westwood.

“I’m delighted he’ll be part of our squad for some time to come.”
