Maple Leafs activate Chris Tanev ahead of game vs. Panthers

The Toronto Maple Leafs will get a steady presence back on the blue line for a pivotal Atlantic Division matchup.

Defenceman Chris Tanev was activated from injured reserve hours before puck drop against the Florida Panthers after missing the last six games.

Tanev was a full participant in the Leafs morning skate with defenceman Phillippe Myers getting in some extra work at the end of practice, suggesting he could be coming out of the lineup.

The 35-year-old defenceman has been sidelined since Feb. 25 after suffering an upper-body injury against the Boston Bruins when he took a hit from centreman John Beecher.

Tanev has been a key piece along Toronto’s blue line this season, tallying two goals and 15 assists across 57 games for the Maple Leafs.
