Stars’ Roope Hintz ‘not available day to day’ after taking puck to face

The centre was ruled out of Sunday’s contest against the Vancouver Canucks after he took a puck to the face in a loss to the Edmonton Oilers the day before.

Hintz, the team’s second-leading scorer, left mid-way through the second period against Edmonton after he tried to deflect a shot attempt and it re-directed up and hit him under the visor. The Finn stayed down for a while, skated off alongside a trainer with a towel covering his right eye and went straight down the tunnel.

The Stars ruled him out with an upper-body injury, and after the game, head coach Pete DeBoer told reporters that Hintz was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Before the Stars took on the Canucks on Sunday, DeBoer told reporters that Hintz travelled back to Dallas and “we’ll see,” per Stars staff writer Mike Heika.

“The initial thought is it’s nothing long, long term, but obviously not available day to day here.”

Hintz’s injury comes one day after the team acquired fellow countryman Mikko Rantanen and signed the Finn to a new eight-year deal.

It appears fans may have to wait a bit before they can see the duo take the ice together for the Stars. After the Canucks game, the Stars have four days off before closing their road trip in Winnipeg next Friday and at Colorado two days after that.
